ProWST is a company.

This is pronounced: Pro-We-Es-Te.

The company has a mission.

It is to make the old opera house fit again.

The opera house is located in Stuttgart.

In the middle of the Palace Gardens.

The opera house is very old.

It is called the Littmann-Bau and is a listed building.

This means it cannot be demolished.

Operas and ballets are performed on its stage.

Opera performances feature extensive singing.

Ballet, conversely, is characterized by dance.

The Stuttgart Opera and Ballet are highly renowned.

Indeed, their reputation extends worldwide.

However, a significant challenge exists.

The technical infrastructure within the opera house is severely outdated.

The structural walls exhibit significant cracking.

Furthermore, there is insufficient operational space for the staff.

The facility requires comprehensive renovation and modernization to restore its optimal functionality.

During this extensive renovation period, the opera house will function as an active construction site.

Consequently, performances will not be feasible.

However, the project specialists have developed a robust interim plan.

During this period, both the Opera and Ballet ensembles will be provided with a new temporary performance venue.

This temporary venue is planned for a location in northern Stuttgart.

The specific site is adjacent to the Wagenhallen complex.

This area already serves as a vibrant hub for numerous artists.

The Opera and Ballet ensembles require extensive ancillary facilities.

Specifically, this includes rehearsal studios and administrative offices.

These essential facilities will also be constructed on this site.

Additionally, new production workshops will be established.

The Opera and Ballet require spacious and specialized workshops.

Consequently, a dedicated new building will be constructed to house these operations.

Construction is underway in the Bad Cannstatt district of Stuttgart.

Numerous trades are employed here:

Painters, costume makers, sculptors, joiners, and metalworkers.

For each performance, they design the stage sets.

This is referred to as scenography.

They also create exquisite costumes.

These are intended for the singers and dancers.

Once the singers, dancers, and workshops have relocated to the new facilities,

the renovation of the old opera house can commence.

The entire project will be finalized when

  • the opera house's interior has been aesthetically restored,
  • its technical infrastructure is modernized,
  • staff members are provided with expanded space,
  • and an inviting café is available for all patrons.

Subsequently, the dancers and singers will return to the opera house.

Numerous individuals will once again be able to experience artistic performances here.

What will become of the spaces adjacent to the Wagenhallen?

They will be repurposed.

For residential units, additional workshops, and office spaces.

This entire undertaking represents a substantial task.
